Collect QuickBooks invoices by Direct Debit with GoCardless

The problem

Clients pay late or forget, and you spend evenings checking the bank.

The result

Each QuickBooks invoice is collected on its due date, then marked paid and reconciled automatically.

How to set it up: QuickBooks Online

  1. Create an invoice and open the Payment methods panel on the right.
  2. Expand Charge direct debit and turn on GoCardless.
  3. Send the client a Direct Debit mandate request (from the invoice, or in bulk via Customers > Batch actions > Set up direct debit).
  4. Once the mandate is active, save and send the invoice. GoCardless collects on the due date.
  5. For weekly or monthly cleans, choose Make recurring when you schedule the Direct Debit.

Before you start

  • QuickBooks shows the GoCardless fee on the invoice (1% per transaction when we checked; it can change).
  • Maximum £5,000 per payment unless GoCardless raises your limit.
  • Direct Debit takes several working days; QuickBooks starts the process up to 10 working days before the due date.
